Cariboo Gate Foundation

Give your time, your skills, your voice.

You don't need to travel to Uganda to make a difference. Most of what keeps our work going happens right here in Canada.

Teach the teachers. Multiply your craft.

Bweyale Vocational Education's instructors already know their trades. What they want is the chance to learn from experienced professionals, and how to teach those skills well. If you work in a trade, in IT, in farming, in counselling or in teaching, you can help.

  1. 01

    Beside the instructors.

Spend one to two weeks beside the school's instructors in Bweyale, or help remotely by video

  2. 02

    Methods worth passing on.

Share modern methods, safety standards and how to teach them

  3. 03

    Your time, our costs.

Your time is volunteered. Cariboo Gate covers flights, lodging, insurance and materials. Cost of a two-week visit: about $3,000 (sample), covered by donors, not by you.

  4. 04

    No surprises.

We'll talk everything through before anything is booked

Roles that make a real difference.

Most roles are remote and flexible. All volunteers receive an orientation and agree to our code of conduct and safeguarding policy.

  • Grant writing & research

Help us find and win funding from foundations and companies.

  • Design, photo & video

Tell the story of our work through visuals and editing.

  • Events & fundraising

Plan or staff events in your community.

  • Translation

Help with Arabic, Juba Arabic, Swahili or French materials.

  • Professional skills

Accounting, legal, IT or governance expertise for our board and committees.

  • Ambassadors

Speak about our work at churches, schools, clubs and workplaces.

Turn a birthday, a run or a bake sale into a trade.

Community fundraisers are one of our most important sources of support. We'll help you set up a personal page, and provide photos, stories and a short presentation.

  • Birthday and celebration fundraisers
  • Runs, rides and challenges
  • Church, school and community events
  • Workplace campaigns and matching drives

Please contact us before your event so we can confirm how donations will be receipted under CRA rules.

Tools that start careers.

Good-quality equipment goes straight into our training workshops. Please contact us before dropping anything off.

  • Hand tools: saws, hammers, chisels, planes, trowels, levels
  • Sewing machines (manual or treadle preferred) and supplies
  • Laptops in working order, less than 5 years old
  • Farm tools: hoes, watering cans, wheelbarrows

We buy most equipment in Uganda to support local businesses and avoid shipping costs. Donated items are consolidated and shipped twice a year; drop-off is by appointment in Kamloops.

Receipts for goods. Eligible gifts in kind receive an official receipt for their fair market value, in line with CRA rules. Items worth more than $1,000 may need an independent appraisal. Ask before you give.
