Your gift goes further than you think.
Donations to registered charities earn a non-refundable federal and provincial tax credit. For most British Columbians, the combined credit is roughly 20% on the first $200 you give in a year and about 44% on everything above that — more at the highest income levels.
- A $1,000 gift can mean roughly $390 back at tax time for a typical BC donor
- You can claim gifts up to 75% of your net income in a year
- Unused donations can be carried forward for up to five years
- Spouses and common-law partners can combine receipts on one return
